Palm Beach Gardens Man Climbing for Charity

Steven McCraney is ascending another peak to raise funds for Place of Hope.

Place of Hope supporter and outdoor adventurer Steven McCraney is climbing a mountain in Russia and using the feat as a fundraising opportunity for the nonprofit organization that helps children in crisis situations.

McCraney, who lives in one of the waterfront homes in Palm Beach Gardens, departed for Mount Elbrus on July 19 to summit the 18,510-foot peak.

“His load will be heavy, however, far lighter than the burden many of our local children carry daily,” Place of Hope Executive Director Charles Bender said.

In 2012, McCraney climbed Aconcagua, a mountain in the Andes, and raised $8,000 for the cause.

Donors can contribute to the current climb by visiting the Place of Hope Web site at www.placeofhope.com and pledging a penny per foot – or more.
